This boat day out takes you from a beginner to a level 1 PADI certified freediver During this ocean dive you'll build upon your theory and pool skills to develop fundamental ocean freediving skills, safety knowledge, and confidence to hold your breath for extended periods beneath the surface.
What is a Level 1 Boat Dive?
What You’ll Learn
Static & Dynamic Apnea
Learn how to calmly hold your breath and move smoothly and efficiently underwater in a safe and supportive environment.
Safety & Rescue
Learn comprehensive buddy procedures, risk awareness, and how to recognise and respond to freediving emergencies.
Equalisation & Depth
Learn skills to safely and enjoyably dive to 16m in the ocean under the supervision of experienced instructors.
Theory & Physiology
Understand freediving physics, how your body adapts to breath-holding, and the principles that keep you safe underwater.
Level 1 Boat Dive
Duration: 4 hours on the boat (5 hours total)
Meeting Time: 7:30am for morning dive or 11:30am for afternoon dive
Location: Pirates Bay or Garden Point Boat Ramp

Your Certification Goals:
Dive comfortably to 10 - 16 meters in the ocean
Perform safe buddy procedures and rescues from 5m depth
Upon successful completion, you'll earn a globally recognised PADI level 1 Freediver certification, recognised internationally and transferable between major freediving agencies.
What to Bring:
Fins, weight belt, mask and snorkel
Wetsuit with hood (minimum 2 piece, 5mm, open cell recommended)
Wetsuit gloves and socks
Reusable water bottle
Light snacks & warm drink (optional)
Small dry bag (vessel is a wet-deck RIB)
Warm / waterproof jacket
Hat or beanie
Sunglasses
Seasickness medication (if needed)
Towel and warm change of clothes for after the dive

Who Can Join:
Basic PADI Freediver certified (or equivalent)
Able to swim 200 meters confidently
18+ years of age
Complete a medical check (medical clearance required if any conditions are flagged)

Safety comes first. If conditions aren't suitable, we'll reschedule the ocean session to another day that works for you and the group.

Completely normal. We progress gradually and never push you beyond your comfort zone. Many students surprise themselves with what they achieve when properly prepared.

No, hire gear is available through our partner dive store. If you need to rent gear, please contact us in advance to arrange.

The Level 1 Freediver course is Theory & Pool only. The Level 1 Boat Dive in addition to the Level 1 Freediver completes your PADI Level 1 Freediver certification.

No, the Level 1 Freediver Course is required to proceed to the Level 1 Boat Dive.

We work with each student individually. Most people achieve the requirements with proper instruction, but if you need more time, you can book additional training for specific course requirements within 12 months.
