Deep South is teaming up with the Invasive Seastar Clean Up crew to protect Spotted Handfish habitat by removing invasive seastars
Let’s get together, look after our ocean, and give a little back to the place that gives us so much.
Who: Anyone keen to help
What: Invasive seastar removal to protect local habitat
When: Sunday 14 June – 10:00 am
Where: Nutgrove Beach
Meeting spot:https://maps.app.goo.gl/LW82VjQ1fDvp7vuU6
You’re invited to jump in and help by:
Freediving to remove seastars, or
Joining the land crew to count and weigh them on the beach.
Bring some snacks and hang around for a post‑dive picnic with the community.
Suit up and get ready to dive in for a cause that matters this Sunday
A few reminders:
We highly encourage taking a freediving course with us to learn how to freedive safely and proficiently.
This is a free, casual meet-up, not a formal course, so please ensure you’re comfortable to look after yourself and always buddy up (you can find a buddy during the pre dive chat if you come alone).
Conditions may change - check the discussion tab for weather/location updates
We highly encourage car pooling to these events so we don't over crowd areas. Keep your eye on the Facebook discussion for a car pooling thread.
Note: The only thing we take at clean up dives are invasive species and photos, so please no harvesting of abalone, fish, or crayfish etc.
Don't have snorkel or freedive gear? Get in touch now to arrange hire options.
